Lucerne Valley Elementary School students Den’nayah Carr and Adrian Velador were recognized as Students of the Month during the March 13th meeting of the district’s Board of Trustees.
LVES Principal Joanna Mora introduced the students during the event. Den’nayah and Adrian were the first LVES students to receive this honor in recent memory.
“We are super excited to jump on the Student of the Month train,” said Mrs. Mora. “It is with great pride that we nominated Den’nayah Carr as the Student of the Month,” said Mrs. Mora, quoting Den’nayah’s teacher, Mrs. Mauer. “Den’naya exemplifies the qualities of an exceptional student through her dedication, integrity and leadership. She continually sets the standards of her peers by being punctual, focused and engaged in every aspect of her education.”
According to Mrs. Mauer, Den’nayah has made a dramatic leap in her academic performance during the second semester, which demonstrates her determination and love for learning. In addition to her academic achievements, Den’nayah demonstrates the core values of the Elementary School’s motto - SOAR: “She demonstrates honesty, accountability and commitment to self improvement. Her willingness to learn and grow from these experiences reflect her maturity and strong character. Den’nayah is a true leader, consistently leading by example.”
The second LVES Student of the Month, Adrian Velador, was nominated by his teacher, Ms. Valenzuela. “Not only has he shown remarkable improvement in his academics but his dedication is becoming a better student both in his studies and character has been truly a sight to see,” according to Ms. Valenzuela’s nomination letter. “Adrian is naturally emerging as a leader among his peers. His strong personality and positive influence sets him apart, and he consistently uses his reach to uplift those around him.”
Adrian encourages his classmates and makes sure they are motivated and on task. “He is not afraid to speak up when a student acts unkindly to another student. What is particularly impressive about Adrian is his openness to growth.” He shows a commitment to self improvement. He consistently asks questions and seeks opportunity to do better.
“Adrian is more than just a hard working student. He is a role model.”
