Parents and community members were in for a treat when the LVES Drama Club presented “The North Pole’s Got Talent!” last weekend. The holiday-themed production showcased the acting, singing and dancing talents of Lucerne Valley Elementary School students in grades 2 through 6.
The musical was set in Santa’s Workshop at the North Pole a few days before Christmas. The twist: Mr. and Mrs. Claus have decided to hold a talent show for all of their employees. The result: hilarious holiday fun.
Ruby, played by Yuccel Rochin, shined as a star judge (think Heidi Klum on “America’s Got Talent”). The actress had many of the best lines. Next to Ruby in the judges’ chairs were Santa Claus played by drama production veteran Irvin Angeles and Mrs. Claus, played by Daphne Rochin. Charlie Rogers (Holly) and Evan Lambert (Mistletoe) served as event emcees.
But all of the young thespians shined as the Drama Club sang and danced to holiday classics like “Here Comes Santa Claus,” “Let It Snow” and “Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer.”
Sometimes during the songs, commercial actors interrupted the show to bring clever advertisements such as “Rudolph’s Remedy” and “Elf Help.” The Sanchez sisters — Scarlett, Belinda and Angelica — each portrayed two characters, as did many other actors and actresses.
The production, which was around an hour long, ended with a rousing version of “We Wish You A Merry Christmas.” Afterward, guests enjoyed a wide assortment of goodies courtesy of the LVES Booster Club.
“The North Pole’s Got Talent!” was directed by Mrs. Chris Pennington and co-directed by Mrs. Leeann Lambert whose family has played a key role in both provided acting talent (Evan Lambert and Kylee Lambert) and sound/lighting provided by Joseph Lambert.
Principal Mr. Umstead was on had during Friday’s performance to applaud the efforts of all involved.
